CORAL GABLES, Fla. For the second time in the first three weeks of the 2016 season, a member of the University of Miami soccer team has been named the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) College Player of the Week.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce received the honor this week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the NSCAA.

“I am so proud of Phallon,” Miami head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “She has been working so hard to be where she is at today with her performances. She is confident, energetic and is playing lights-out right now.”

Tullis-Joyce led Miami (5-1-0) to 1-0 shutout victories in both of its matches over the weekend. The Hurricanes topped Miami (OH) Friday night and then downed Florida Atlantic Sunday afternoon.

A native of Shoreham, N.Y., Tullis-Joyce played all 180 minutes in goal during the two matches without conceding a goal. She logged seven saves, including multiple from close range, and handled six corner kicks.

Tullis-Joyce has gone over 264 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal and has directed Miami to three straight shutout victories for the first time since 2008.

On the season, Tullis-Joyce is 5-1-0, with all five of her wins coming in shutouts. It is the second time the Hurricanes have posted five shutouts in their first six matches. Additionally, the 6-foot-1-inch Tullis-Joyce has a 0.37 goals against average and a .909 save percentage, allowing just two goals in over 492 minutes of action.

Freshman forward Kristina Fisher was tabbed as the NSCAA College Player of the Week Aug. 23 after the first two matches of the season.

Tullis-Joyce, Fisher and the Hurricanes return to the field Thursday night when they host FGCU at 7 p.m., at Cobb Stadium.
