Introducing U: Kristina Fisher

Introducing U: Kristina Fisher

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Kristina Fisher was the lone member of the University of Miami soccer team’s seven-member recruiting class to enroll early and begin classes in January.

A forward from nearby Jupiter, Fla., Fisher sat down with HurricaneSports.com to discuss both her first several months at Miami and what is to come down the road for her as a Hurricane. . .

Q: How much did coming in for the spring help you get acclimated to college life?

A: I think it helped me a lot. I got to know the coaches and the team, and I got to build a lot of really good relationships with a lot of the players. And then on the academic side of things I think it helped a lot because I got adjusted before the crazy fall season.

Q: What made you want to enroll early and how hard was it to get that done?

A: It was kind of even [between two factors]. Soccer, that was a big part of the decision, and then [also] my academics. I thought that would help me get a head start on all my studies. It wasn’t too difficult [to make it happen] because I was already ahead with credits in my high school year, but I just dual-enrolled my last half a semester so that I had enough credits to graduate on time.

Q: How much have the other freshmen kind of been leaning on you and trying to learn from you since you already have a few months here under your belt?

A: Somewhat a lot, but not too much because all the other upperclassmen have helped them a lot. So, they’ve had people to talk to, too.

Q: As you look back on your first semester at UM, what was the highlight of it?

A: Oh, that’s tough, but probably just getting to know the team and having them welcome me in so well and so nicely because I was really nervous about coming early.

Q: You scored 49 seconds into your first spring match. What was that like that you were playing your first match as a Hurricane and immediately you scored a goal?

A: It was crazy. I don’t even know how that happened [Laughter], but it just did. The ball fell to me and it just happened.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about the upcoming fall season?

A: Probably winning some games and getting into the [NCAA] tournament, but [also] playing with my friends and doing well in school.

Q: When you think back on it, what made you decide that Miami was the right school for you?

A: I really like the coaches and then the area, of course, is really nice, but also the academics are really [highly-ranked] nation-wide and so I thought that would help me later on in life.

Q: Were there any classes that you took last semester that you really enjoyed?

A: I liked business law a lot. It was really interesting learning about the law. And then, I also had a history class and I’m kind of interested in history, so it was good. Those were some good classes.

Q: How would you describe yourself as a player?

A: I like to think of myself as a smart player, someone who’s fast off the ball, smart with my decisions and really technical.

Q: When you take the field for the first time in a regular season match, what do you think that moment is going to be like?

A: It’s going to be awesome. I’ll be really excited [for our] first ACC game [because it] is going to be FSU, so it will be a great game, great first [conference] game of the season. So, I’m looking forward to it.
