Zhang, Lohan & Wagner Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Sinead Lohan, Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang of the University of Miami women’s tennis team were all named to the 2016 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced Thursday by the conference office.

Miami is tied for the second-most players on the 20-player team and it is the 10th consecutive year at least three Hurricanes have made the list.

“These ladies have exemplified the true meaning of ‘student-athlete,’” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Getting the job done on the court and in the classroom is what these four years are all about.”

Lohan, who hails from Waterford, Ireland, is a member of the All-ACC Academic Team for the first time in her career, making her the 16th Hurricane to receive the distinction in Miami’s 11 years in the league. The sophomore is an economics major with a 3.114 GPA and she was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (minimum 3.2 GPA) this spring.

On the court, Lohan went 40-6 in singles in 2015-16, tied for the third-most wins in a season in program history, and advanced to the NCAA Singles Championship semifinals. The First Team All-ACC selection concluded the season ranked sixth nationally in singles and was an ITA All-American for the second year in a row.

Wagner is the fourth Hurricane to make the All-ACC Academic Team four times, joining current associate head coach Laura Vallverdu (2007-10), Bianca Eichkorn (2008-11) and Lina Lileikite (2012-15). Wagner, Eichkorn and Vallverdu are also the three winningest singles players in program history.

A native of Amberg, Germany, Wagner graduated from Miami with a 3.69 GPA after majoring in economics and she was tabbed to the Dean’s List (minimum 3.5 GPA) in six of her eight semesters. As a senior in 2015-16, Wagner, a First Team All-ACC pick, finished in the top 10 in singles and doubles, earning ITA All-America honors in both.

Zhang was selected to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second time in as many years at Miami, making her the 11th Hurricane to be honored multiple times. A sophomore majoring in management, Zhang possesses a 3.80 GPA and has made the Dean’s List in all four of her collegiate semesters.

An ITA All-American in doubles and a Third Team All-ACC choice as a sophomore this season, Zhang ended her campaign ranked eighth nationally in doubles and No. 81 in the country in singles. The Richmond, B.C., native paced the Hurricanes with 26 doubles victories in 2015-16, 12 of which came over ranked pairs.
