@CanesWTennis Ranked No. 7 Nationally
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is ranked seventh in the country in the weekly Oracle/ITA rankings released Tuesday.
The ranking mark the second week in a row the Hurricanes have been among the top seven teams in nation. Miami was sixth in last week’s poll and then posted a 2-0 record, including earning a 5-2 victory over No. 12 Virginia.
Miami (12-4, 7-2 ACC) remains the second-highest-ranked team in the ACC, behind only No. 3 North Carolina. The Hurricanes and Tar Heels are two of six ACC teams in the top 20 of the poll, tied with the SEC for the most of any conference.
Individual player rankings were not updated this week, meaning the Hurricanes continue to have four ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs. Senior Stephanie Wagner and sophomore Sinead Lohan are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, in singles, while Wagner pairs with sophomore Wendy Zhang to form the No. 9 doubles duo in the country.
The Hurricanes went 8-0 during the month of March, with seven of their wins coming against ranked teams. Miami will begin play in April Saturday at 12 p.m. when it travels to South Carolina to take on No. 29 Clemson.
