@CanesMensTennis Falls To No. 13 Wake Forest

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s tennis team fell to No. 13 Wake Forest, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Canes were unable to dictate a strong rhythm against the Demon Deacons, coming up short in doubles play. To initiate doubles, junior duo Max Andrews and Bernard Tefel took down No. 12 Skander Mansori and Christian Seraphim, 6-3.

Sophomore pair Nile Clark and Piotr Lomacki fell against Petros Chrysochos and Jon Ho, 7-5. Junior Jesse Flores and Sophomore Kevin Bondar squared off against Romain Bogaerts and Dennis Uspensky but fell, 6-3.

“Bernard and Max had a great doubles win against the #12 ranked team in the country,” said head coach Mario Rincon. “Wake Forest served well the entire day in singles and doubles, and hit many aces on deuce points. We couldn’t get any momentum going against them in singles.”

In singles action the Canes put up a strong effort but were unable to answer to the Demon Deacons. Andrews fought hard but fell to No. 36 Petros Chrysochos, 6-2,6-4. No. 38 Piotr Lomacki was slightly overpowered by No.16 Skander Mansori falling 6-4,6-3.

Fermin Calvo forced a third set in his match but could not close out Romain Bogaerts. Calvo was defeated 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.  Junior Flores put up a battle against Jon Ho but fell, 6-3,7-6.

Due to inclement weather conditions in the Coral Gables area, play was halted for an hour and 50 minutes during singles.

After the weather cleared, Tefel came up short against Christian Seraphim falling 6-2,6-3. Bondar fell in a tough match against Dennis Uspensky falling 6-3, 6-3.

“They’re one of the best teams we have played so far this year. We will take a couple of days off, and start preparing for Georgia Tech and Clemson on the road,” said head coach Mario Rincon.

The Canes will continue their ACC road trip and will travel to Atlanta to face the No. 32 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on April 1st at 5p.m.
