Wagner Earns Third ACC Weekly Honor this Month
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the third time in March, Stephanie Wagner of the University of Miami women’s tennis team has been named the ACC Player of the Week.
The senior, who shared the recognition this week with Wake Forest’s Anna Ulyashchenko, also earned the honors on March 1 and March 8. The only time she did not win the award this month was a week in which the Hurricanes did not compete.
Wagner, ranked a career-best fifth in the nation, has now earned won ACC Player of the Week accolades on seven occasions during her time as a Hurricane.
A native of Amberg, Germany, Wagner led sixth-ranked Miami (10-4, 5-2 ACC) to a 3-0 week, including a 4-2 victory over second-ranked Ohio State. In the win against the Buckeyes, Wagner posted a three-set comeback triumph versus third-ranked Francesca Di Lorenzo.
Wagner went 3-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles on the week, playing all of her matches at the No. 1 position. All three of her singles victories came over ranked players, including two in the top 60.
The third-winningest player in program history, Wagner currently has 125 singles victories at Miami. She has posted a 13-2 singles mark this spring, including 10-2 against ranked players and 7-0 in ACC play. Wagner is also 10-6 in doubles, with a 7-5 mark against ranked duos.
Wagner and the Hurricanes return to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables Friday when they host No. 12 Virginia at 1 p.m. Miami then faces No. 53 Boston College, also at home, Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats for both matches will be available HERE.
