Canes Enter ITA Poll, Lomacki Jumps to No. 28
The University of Miami men’s tennis program broke into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) at No. 74 on Tuesday, March 8.
The Canes had been unranked this season, but after defeating the then-No. 47 Florida State Seminoles and playing No. 19 Michigan State to a tough match (L, 4-3), Miami moved into the national poll.
This is the first time that the Hurricanes men’s tennis team has been ranked since they were ranked No. 71 on Feb. 14, 2015. They ranked as high as No. 52 last season (Jan. 25). The Hurricanes have been ranked at some point in each of the 12 seasons under head coach Mario Rincon.
Miami joins nine other Atlantic Coast Conference programs that currently hold positions in the poll. The ACC has the most ranked schools than any other conference in the country.
Sophomore Piotr Lomacki has contributed tremendously to the Canes success, most recently when he, ranked No. 78 at the time, took down then-No. 16 Benjamin Lock of Florida State. Lomacki jumped 50 spots in the singles rankings as he currently holds the rank of No. 28 in the nation.
Miami is next in action on Friday, March 11 when it faces Duke at 2:30 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
