Wagner Repeats as ACC Player of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Stephanie Wagner of the University of Miami women’s tennis team garnered her second-straight ACC Player of the Week award, as announced Tuesday evening.
The sixth-ranked player in the nation, Wagner has now earned six ACC weekly honors in her career at Miami.
“Steffi Wagner has evolved into such an incredible leader, player and person,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We couldn’t be happier for her.”
Wagner led Miami to a pair of victories over ranked teams last week. The Hurricanes won 6-1 at No. 71 Florida State Wednesday and then picked up a 5-2 win against No. 31 Notre Dame Sunday.
Playing at the No. 1 position for both of her doubles matches and both of her singles matches, Wagner went 3-0 overall. She won both of her singles matches in straight sets, including posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory against No. 41 Quinn Gleason of Notre Dame.
In doubles, Wagner had one match left unfinished when she was three points from victory and, along with sophomore Wendy Zhang, won 6-3 over No. 21 Gleason and Monica Robinson.
With 122 singles victories in her career, Wagner has the third-most in program history. She is 10-1 in singles this spring, as well as 8-5 in doubles. All of her doubles results and all but three of her singles results have come at the No. 1 spot.
Wagner and the ninth-ranked Hurricanes (6-4, 3-2 ACC) return to action Monday, March 14 at 11 a.m. against No. 38 Columbia at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. Live stats for the match will be available HERE.
