@CanesWTennis No. 13 in Oracle/ITA Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami is No. 13 in the first Oracle/ITA computerized rankings of the season, as released Tuesday afternoon.
The Hurricanes have been in the top 13 in the nation the entire spring, checking in as high as No. 11 in the previous voter rankings. Miami (4-2, 1-0 ACC) dropped just one spot in this week’s rankings despite not having a match since the last release and having its prior match against No. 29 Baylor suspended while holding a 1-0 lead.
In the singles rankings, sophomore Sinead Lohan retained her No. 7 position, while senior Stephanie Wagner moved up two spots to No. 8. Miami and California are the only schools with two top-10 singles players and Miami is the only one with two in the top eight.
Additionally, despite remaining out with an injury, Yolimar Ogando checks in at No. 39, while fellow sophomore Wendy Zhang comes in at No. 73 in the singles rankings.
In doubles, Wagner and Zhang moved up one spot to No. 11 nationally, while Wagner also pairs with senior Clementina Riobueno in the No. 59 position. Wagner is one of three players in the country ranked in the top 11 in both singles and doubles.
The Hurricanes, the third-highest ranked team in the ACC, will play the two teams above them in their next two matches. Miami plays at sixth-ranked North Carolina Friday at 5 p.m. and then at ninth-ranked Duke Sunday at 12 p.m.
