@CanesWTennis Opens ACC Play vs. Georgia Tech
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is getting ACC play started early this season. The Hurricanes, ranked No. 11 in the nation, will host No. 24 Georgia Tech Friday at 3 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Miami (2-0) and Georgia Tech (2-1) are two of six ACC teams in the top 25 of the Oracle/ITA national team rankings.
The Yellow Jackets came to Coral Gables during the fall season to participate in the Miami Fall Invite and will now be returning four months later. The Hurricanes are 7-2 in their last nine dual matches against Georgia Tech, with four-straight victories.
Miami enters the match with four nationally-ranked singles players, including a pair of players in the top 10. Sophomore Sinead Lohan is seventh nationally, followed by fellow 2015 ITA All-American Stephanie Wagner, a senior, at ninth in the country. Sophomore Yolimar Ogando, who remains out due to injury, is ranked No. 21 and sophomore Wendy Zhang is No. 80.
Georgia Tech features one player who is in the Oracle/ITA rankings in Rasheeda McAdoo, who checks in at No. 92.
The Hurricanes have one ranked doubles pair, as Wagner teams with fellow senior Clementina Riobueno in the No. 22 position. For the Yellow Jackets, Paige Hourigan and Kendal Woodard are ranked No. 35.
Friday’s match will be broadcast live on ESPN3 HERE, marking the first-ever home Miami women’s tennis match televised on the network. Entry to the match is free to all fans and live stats will be available HERE.
