CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s tennis team defeated Florida Atlantic University 5-2 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.

“All the guys competed really hard. They played a complete match, for all of them in singles and in doubles,” said assistant coach Mark Dickson.

The afternoon started with exhibiting powerful doubles play, with Miami sweeping FAU.  Leading doubles play was sophomore Piotr Lomacki and junior Max Andrews, defeating Jaoa Cauer and Gerald Nickerson, 6-4. At the No. 2 spot was Christian Langmo and Jesse Flores breezing through their match against David Engel and Remi Chancerel, 6-1. To complete doubles play at the No. 3 was sophomore Nile Clark and Kevin Bondar, who fought through and defeated Zandrix Acob and Alexander Gitin, 7-5.

The men wrapped up doubles play on a high note, winning all three matches, to enter singles play.

Initiating singles play at the No.1 was #23 Lomacki who defeated Gitin, 6-3, 6-4. No. 70 Langmo battled hard after trailing in both sets to come back and grab the win against Gauer 7-5, 7-5.

“Christian Langmo did a great job after being down in both sets. He really fought and he’s showing himself that he can play in a lot of different ways and can come back and win, which is the hallmark of a great player,” said Dickinson.

Flores took charge and delivered a strong performance against Anthony Schohn winning both sets 6-2, 6-1. Miami was able to clinch the win thanks to freshman Fermin Calvo defeating Ignacio Jimenez 6-1, 6-3 in just his second match in Canes uniform.

At the No. 3, No .105 Andrews fell to Chancerel, 6-4, 7-6, and junior Bernard Tefel fell to Acob 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.

Miami will see their first action on the road next weekend when they head to Jacksonville, Fla., for the UNF Invitational Friday Jan. 22 to Saturday, Jan. 23. During their first road matchups of the spring campaign, the Hurricanes will face off against No. 65 Alabama, No. 74 UNCW and No. 75 UNF at next weekend’s invitational.
