Lomacki and Gonzalez Play in Futures Finals

University of Miami sophomore Piotr Lomacki paired with former Hurricane Wilfredo Gonzalez in the Guatemala F2 Futures tennis event this week in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

The duo played their way into the finals of the event, but fell in the championship, 7-5, 6-2, to the second-seeded Marcelo Arevalo (ESA) and Christopher Diaz-Figueroa (GUA).

Lomacki, of Poland, and Gonzalez, of host country Guatemala, took down an Argentinian team of Matias Franco Descotte and Dante Gennaro, 6-0, 6-1, in the round of 16. The Miami pair had a lengthy second-round match, facing Juan Sebastian Gomez (COL) and Manuel Sanchez (MEX). Lomacki and Gonzalez won the epic match, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (6) [10-8], to move the duo into the semifinals.

After falling in the first set of the semifinals, the Hurricane pair came from behind to earn the 6-7 (5), 7-5 [10-6] victory over Benjamin Lock and Courtney John Lock of Zimbabwe.

Lomacki also played in the main draw singles, falling in the first round to Franco Emanuel Egea of Argentina, 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-0.

Gonzalez won his first-round singles match, defeating Courtney John Lock (ZIM), 6-4, 6-1, but fell in the second round to Juan Sebastian Gomez (COL), 6-4, 6-3.
