Bondar Wins Singles Match at Clay Court
ORLANDO, Fla. – University of Miami sophomore Kevin Bondar won his opening match on Thursday in the garnet singles bracket of the Collegiate Clay Court Invitational presented by VISITFLORIDA.com, in Orlando, Fla.
Bondar defeated UCF’s Arjun Watane 6-3, 6-2, to move into the Round of 16. Bondar will next face fifth-seeded Sean Donohue from Louisville at noon on Friday. In gold doubles, Bondar and Nile Clark were defeated, 8-4, by second-seeded Guilherme Hadlich and Gabriel Sidney of Pepperdine.
Clark and Niclas Genovese were both in the gold singles bracket on Thursday morning. Clark opened play with a 6-4, 7-5 loss to Aws Laaribi of Penn State, and will move into the consolation bracket on Friday, facing third-seeded Mariano Porter of UCF at 8 a.m.
Genovese opened his match by winning the first set, but coming up short in the end, 7-6, 7-2, 6-4, to Tuki Jacobs of South Alabama. Genovese will next play at 8 a.m. Friday in the consolation bracket against Jose Gracia of FSU.
The 2015 Collegiate Clay Court Invitational presented by VISITFLORIDA.com is being held Nov. 5-8 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports and the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla.
