Lachowecki Repeats as ACC Offensive POW
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second week in a row, Gracie Lachowecki of the University of Miami soccer team has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday morning.
Lachowecki, a junior forward, tallied her first-career hat trick in Miami’s 3-2 double overtime win over NC State Sunday, scoring the match-winning goal in the 109th minute.
“Gracie has really stepped up for us the last few games,” Miami head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “She works so hard and I am so happy she is producing goals for us that are so important. This is well-deserved.”
A native of Evansville, Ind., Lachowecki is the first player in the ACC to win conference weekly honors in consecutive weeks this season. She is just the third player in the league to win the accolade twice in 2015, regardless of the week.
Lachowecki is third in the ACC with eight goals and she is tied for fourth with 17 points. Additionally, her three match-winning goals place her in a tie for third among ACC players.
In conference play only, Lachowecki has logged five goals and 10 points, both of which are good for second in the ACC standings.
Lachowecki’s hat trick against the Wolfpack was the first by a Hurricane since senior midfielder/defender Natalie Moik did so at NC State Oct. 23, 2014.
After scoring double overtime match-winners in two of Miami’s last three contests, Lachowecki and the Hurricanes return to the field Saturday at Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes and Hokies are set to square off at 7 p.m. at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va.
