Lomacki in ITA All-American Championship
TULSA, Okla. – In back-to-back years, University of Miami Piotr Lomacki has played in the main draw of the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships.
As a rookie last season, Lomacki won three straight singles matches to qualify for the main draw. This year, he was selected for the main draw.
On Thursday, the sophomore from Warsaw, Poland, faced Stanford’s Tom Fawcett, who was seeded in the 9-16 group, in the first round. Lomacki came up short, 6-4, 6-4, in the first-round match of the 64-player main draw singles event.
Lomacki will now face Trevor Johnson of TCU Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the consolation bracket.
Last season, Lomacki, who was ranked No. 788 in ATP at the time, was defeated in three sets by then-No. 738 Julian Lenz of Baylor, the top seed in the event, in first-round action. Lomacki was the first Hurricane to play in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships since 2008, when former All-American Daniel Vallverdu was the No. 3 seed overall.
This marks the 11th straight year that the University of Tulsa is serving as the official tournament host, and most of the action during the two-week event is taking place on the courts of the Michael D. Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 12-15, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
