Roseboro, BIIK-Kazygurt in Champions League

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Jordan Roseboro, a former standout for the University of Miami soccer team, is set to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

A competition featuring the best club teams in Europe, Roseboro’s Kazakhstani FC BIIK-Kazygurt team will meet powerhouse FC Barcelona in the round of 32. The sides square off Tuesday at 5:00 a.m. ET in the first leg of the round in Kazakhstan, with the second leg scheduled for Oct. 14 in Spain.

BIIK-Kazygurt received automatic entry into the Champions League round of 32, bypassing the qualifying stage by winning the Kazak Primer League last season. The team won it again this year and posted a 14-0 record in regular season play.

Roseboro logged four goals this year from her defensive midfield position after joining the team in January. She and teammate Remi Gibba are the first Americans, male or female, to play professional sports in Kazakhstan. Roseboro was previously with the Western New York Flash of the NWSL.

A native of Mechanicsville, Va., Roseboro played at Miami from 2009-12. Her junior year, in 2011, she was a part of the first Hurricane team to win an NCAA Championship match, when the squad defeated Alabama 3-2 in double overtime.

Roseboro started 54 games in her four seasons at Miami, tallying six goals and four assists. The 5-foot-3 midfielder appeared in 54 of 58 matches over her final three years as a Hurricane, a stretch that included two seasons with double-digit victories and two NCAA Championship appearances.

Tuesday’s match between FC BIIK-Kazygurt and FC Barcelona will be streamed live HERE in Russian and HERE in Spanish.
