@CanesMensTennis to Compete in Bedford Cup
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five student-athletes from the University of Miami men’s tennis team will travel to Ft. Myers, Fla., this weekend to compete against 10 Division I teams in the State of Florida Championships – Bedford Cup at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Jesse Flores, Niclas Genovese, Kevin Bondar, Nile Clark and Bernard Tefel will represent Miami against host FGCU, Florida, Florida State, UNF, FAU, Stetson, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, UCF and USF.
Action begins Friday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. as all four singles draws and two doubles draws are scheduled to be in action throughout the day. The Bedford Cup continues Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. with the champions set to be crowned Sunday, Sept. 27.
The Bedford Cup began in 2011 and has been hosted by USF, Florida, Florida State and UNF. Sponsored by the Youth Tennis Foundation of Florida, the Bedford Cup is an annual traveling tournament, bringing together every Division I program in Florida.
The Canes come off a busy weekend as the team was split between two events in the UVa Ranked 1+1 Invitational and the Ivy Plus Tournament. In New Jersey, Jesse Flores and Kevin Bondar each played in the consolation finals of their singles brackets. Flores, Bondar and Nile Clark each picked up two wins in singles play while Bernard Tefel and Bondar paired up to win two doubles matches.
