Five Canes Continue Play at Ivy Plus
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five student-athletes from the University of Miami men’s tennis team will wrap up play at the Ivy Plus Tournament Sunday in Princeton, N.J.
Bernard Tefel and Kevin Bondar teamed up to win the doubles consolation bracket while Jesse Flores, Nile Clark and Bondar each picked up singles wins on Saturday.
Tefel and Bondar made easy work of Shawn Hadavi and Christopher Grant of Columbia, defeating the duo 8-2.
In singles, Flores beat Mitchell Pritchard (Tulsa) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and Nile Clark downed Theophile Lanthiez of Old Dominion, 6-2, 7-6(5). Kevin Bondar won his first set against Ismael Lahlou of Penn, fell behind in the second, then won the tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
Niclas Genovese lost his singles match 6-1, 6-4 to Stefan Lugonjic of Indiana and Tefel fell, 7-6(3), 6-2, to Pablo Alvarez of Buffalo.
The event will wrap up on Sunday with each Cane playing a singles match and the Tefel/Bondar duo will play a doubles match.
