@CanesFutbol to Face FIU in Exhibition Match
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team will begin its 2015 season with an exhibition affair at FIU Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
After starting preseason camp Aug. 5, the Hurricanes will take the field against a new opponent when they square off against the Panthers at FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami.
The contest will be the first of two exhibitions for Miami this season, as the team travels to DeLand, Fla. to take on Stetson Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Miami, under the direction of third-year head coach Mary-Frances Monroe, returns eight starters from 2014 and welcomes a talented eight-member recruiting class into the fold. Six current Hurricanes logged at least 15 starts in Miami’s 18 matches last season, including three who opened all 18 on the field.
The Hurricanes’ top six players in points are back from the 2014 campaign. That group includes senior midfielder/defender Natalie Moik, who led the way in points, goals and shots, and redshirt senior midfielder Erin McGovern who paced the team in assists.
The Hurricanes closed last season strong, winning two of their final three matches. They also won both of their exhibitions in 2014, taking down USF 2-1 at home and North Florida 3-0 on the road.
FIU posted an 8-8-2 record during the 2014 season, including a 3-4-2 mark in Conference USA play.
