Rincon Adds Flores to 2015-16 Roster
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami men’s tennis coach Mario Rincon has added Jesse Flores, an incoming junior from Oakville, Ontario, Canada, to his 2015-16 roster.
“We are very excited about Jesse joining our Hurricanes team,” Rincon said. “His all-court game and athleticism will add a lot to our team in both singles and doubles. He will continue to improve every day, and we can’t wait to start working with him this fall.”
Flores, who transferred to UM from UCF, will have two seasons to play for the Hurricanes. While in Orlando, he went 8-5 in singles in each of his first two collegiate seasons. As a rookie, he was 6-3 at the sixth spot, and as a sophomore won three matches at both the number five and six positions. Flores played at the number one doubles spot in all 18 matches as a freshman, then as a sophomore, won seven doubles matches, five of which were at the number three position.
“We’re excited that Jesse is joining us at the University of Miami,” assistant coach Mark Dickson said. “He already has two years of college tennis experience and is a very tough competitor with a big, all-court game. Jesse comes from a great family with strong values and I’m confident that he will be a leader for the team on and off the court.”
Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Flores shined on the Canadian junior circuit. He was ranked as high as No. 4 in the Canadian Junior rankings and was the second-ranked junior in Ontario. He was a grade 5 singles finalist at the All-Canadian ITF Championship. A multi-sport standout, he was the captain of his high school basketball team for three years and was the provincial finals MVP for both soccer and basketball.
Flores joins a pair of incoming recruits in Dane Dunlap (Wasago, Ontario) and Max Andrews (Manchester, England/Rice). The Canes return six players, including one junior in Bernard Tefel, and five sophomores: Kevin Bondar, Nile Clark, Niclas Genovese, Christian Langmo and Piotr Lomacki.
