@HurricaneTennis Meets No. 2 UNC in Sweet 16
WACO, Texas – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play its 11th Sweet 16 match in as many years when it faces North Carolina Friday at 10:00 a.m. ET.
The Hurricanes, ranked and seeded No. 15, will square off against the Tar Heels, ranked and seeded second, at the Hurd Tennis Center on the Campus of Baylor University.
North Carolina (29-1, 14-0 ACC) finished first in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings, while Miami (18-6, 12-2) came in second place. They are two of the four ACC schools among the final 16 teams in Waco.
The Tar Heels enter with four ranked singles players, including three in the top 20. Jamie Loeb paces the group at the seventh spot in the rankings and she is followed by Hayley Carter, who is ranked No. 16. Caroline Price comes in at No. 20 and Whitney Kay is ranked No. 102 nationally.
North Carolina also has a trio of ranked doubles teams. Loeb and Price are its top-ranked duo at No. 16 in the nation and then Kay and Carter are next at No. 35. Ashley Dai and Kate Vialle hold the No. 74 spot on the ITA list.
The Hurricanes enter with a quintet of ranked singles players, as has been the case all season long. All-American junior Stephanie Wagner is Miami’s highest-ranked player at No. 11, with ACC Freshman of the Year Sinead Lohan next at No. 37.
Junior Clementina Riobueno is ranked No. 83 in the country, while freshman Wendy Zhang is No. 108 and senior Lina Lileikite checks in at No. 115.
In doubles, Lileikite and Wagner are ranked No. 17 and Riobueno teams with senior Monique Albuquerque at the No. 72 position on Paige Yaroshuk-Tews‘ team.
