Albuquerque Walks at Her Second UM Graduation

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami women’s tennis standout Monique Albuquerque walked at graduation for the second time in as many years Thursday evening.

Albuquerque took part in UM’s graduate school commencement ceremony just under one year after receiving her undergraduate degree, and is now set to earn her Master of Science in International Business.

“We are very proud of Monique’s accomplishments academically,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “She has been an outstanding student-athlete. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Albuquerque graduated Magna Cum Laude last May with Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and a 3.869 GPA.

Both an All-American and an All-ACC Women’s Tennis Academic Team selection in 2014, Albuquerque returned to school for her final year of eligibility and enrolled in a master’s program for 2014-15.

In addition to leading the Hurricanes in dual match victories this season, Albuquerque has continued to add to her impressive academic resume.

Albuquerque was one of 53 student-athletes in the Atlantic Coast Conference across all sports to garner an ACC postgraduate scholarship honor.

During her undergraduate career, Albuquerque made the Dean’s List (3.5 GPA) in all five of her semesters at Miami, twice being named to the President’s Honor Roll (4.0 GPA).

The Porto Alegre, Brazil native has been selected to the ACC Honor Roll twice and was one of six UM student-athletes on the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges list in 2014. In addition, she is a recipient of the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.

Albuquerque helped the Hurricanes win their first ACC Championship in 2013 and has compiled over 100 wins between singles and doubles in her career.

Paired with teammate Clementina Riobueno, Albuquerque advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship last year. She went 24-0 in ACC regular season singles matches the past two seasons.

Albuquerque and the Hurricanes begin play in the NCAA Team Championship Friday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Miami is hosting NCAA Regionals for the 11th year in a row and faces North Florida in the first round at 2:00 p.m.
