@HurricaneTennis Stays No. 15 in the Nation

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Seeded No. 15 in the NCAA Team Championship, the University of Miami is also ranked 15th in the final set of pre-NCAA Championships rankings, as announced Friday by the ITA.

This is the second consecutive week in which the Hurricanes are ranked No. 15 in the country. In ten of the ITA’s 15 rankings releases, Miami (16-6, 12-2 ACC) has been in the top 15. The Hurricanes have been in the top 20 all year and fell below No. 17 just one time.

Miami is one of six ACC schools in the top 25, the second most of any conference. The Hurricanes have five wins over teams in the top 25.

Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ team once again has five players ranked nationally in in singles. First Team All-ACC selection Stephanie Wagner is No. 11, while ACC Freshman of the Year Sinead Lohan moved up three spots to No. 37. Wagner, a junior, is seeded No. 9-16 in the NCAA Singles Championship, and Lohan is one of just seven true freshmen in the field.

Junior Clementina Riobueno is ranked No. 83 in the country and has been in the top 90 all season. Freshman Wendy Zhang comes in at No. 108 and senior Lina Lileikite is No. 115. Both players have been nationally ranked the whole season.

The Hurricanes also has a pair of duos in the ITA’s doubles rankings. Lileikite and Wagner, who were selected for the NCAA Doubles Championship, hold the No. 17 position on the list. Riobueno and senior Monique Albuquerque are ranked No. 72.

Miami will host an NCAA Regional May 8-9 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables. This is the 11th consecutive season that the Hurricanes have been picked to host. No. 23 Ole Miss, Denver and North Florida are the other teams in the Regional.

The Rebels and Pioneers will play Friday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. and then the Hurricanes will take on UNF at 2:00 p.m. The winners will meet the next day at 2:00 p.m. for a berth in the Sweet 16.
