@CanesMensTennis Travels to North Carolina
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – This weekend the University of Miami men’s tennis team will travel to North Carolina to play a pair of ACC matches against No. 13 Wake Forest and No. 34 NC State.
On Friday, the Canes will take on No. 13 Wake Forest at 4 p.m. in Winston-Salem. Then on Sunday, Miami will be in Raleigh to face off against No. 34 NC State at 12 p.m.
Friday’s match-up is the 22nd meeting between the Canes and the Demon Deacons. The Canes have a 13-8 all-time record against Wake Forest. No. 13 Wake Forest enters the match with a 15-6 record.
NC State is also a familiar foe for the Canes. This will be the 21st meeting between the schools and Miami has a dominant 17-3 all-time record against the Wolfpack. No. 34 NC State enters the weekend with a 13-8 record this spring.
The Canes will be looking to bounce back after two ACC road matches. The Canes fell in two tough matches against No. 32 Florida State and No. 23 Louisville.
In singles play, No. 87 Piotr Lomacki has led the way for the Canes with nine singles victories, including two wins against nationally ranked opponents. Following closely behind are seniors Wilfredo Gonzalez and Henrique Tsukamoto with eight wins.
Freshman Christian Langmo has secured three straight singles victories and now has seven singles victories. Lone sophomore Bernard Tefel has six singles wins and freshman Niclas Genovese has secured five wins.
In doubles play, senior Gonzalez and freshman Kevin Bondar lead the way with a nine victories. Tsukamoto and Lomacki also have an impressive eight wins this spring. Freshman Nile Clark has five doubles victories, three coming with fellow freshman Alexander Fahnehjelm, one with Andrew Harrington and the other with Langmo.
After the two matches, the Canes will return home and will host a pair of ACC opponents. The Canes will take on No. 12 Virginia Tech on Friday, April 17 at 2 p.m. and will face No. 4 Virginia on Sunday, April 19 at 12 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Attendance is free to the matches.
