@CanesMensTennis Downed by No. 23 Louisville
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s tennis team was overpowered, 7-0, by No. 23 Louisville Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rud Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky.
The day began with doubles play. The freshman duo of Nile Clark and Alexander Fahnehjelm teamed up but were stifled in a match against Van Damrongsri and Albert Wagner, 8-1. Lone sophomore Bernard Tefel and freshman Christian Langmo fell against Chris Simich and Seb Stiefelmeyer, 8-2, which clinched the doubles point for the Cardinals.
Senior Wilfredo Gonzalez and Kevin Bondar were down 6-3 against No. 68 Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet when the match was called.
In singles action, freshman Clark could not develop a consistent rhythm and fell against Chris Simich, 6-2, 6-0. At the number one singles spot, fellow freshman Langmo could not contain No. 5 Seb Stiefelmeyer and fell, 6-1, 6-3.
Senior Gonzalez faltered in a tough match against No. 94 Albert Wagner falling, 6-1, 6-2, which secured the victory for Louisville. Freshman Niclas Genovese battled but could not close out and fell against Luis Elizondo, 6-3, 6-3.
Sophmore Tefel challenged his opponent but was unable to close out the match falling against Van Damrongsri, 6-3, 6-4. After a tough first set, senior Henrique Tsukamoto pushed his opponent to the limit in the second set, but could not close out against No. 123 Alex Gornet falling, 6-0, 7-5.
The Canes will now travel to North Carolina for a pair of ACC match-ups. Miami will face No. 12 Wake Forest on Friday, April 10 at 3 p.m. and then the Canes will face No. 34 NC State on Sunday, April 12 at 12 p.m.
