CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will continue their 2015 spring campaign with two home ACC matches this weekend. The Canes host No. 37 Notre Dame on Friday, March 27 at 2 p.m. and Boston College on Sunday, March 29 at 12 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
This will be the 27 meeting between Miami and Notre Dame. The Canes have a 17-9 all-time record against the Fighting Irish. The last meeting came last season, when the Canes travelled to South Bend, Ind., and fell to Notre Dame, 7-0. Notre Dame comes to Coral Gables with a 10-7 record.
The Canes will face Boston College for the 11 time and have a decisive 9-1 all-time record against the Eagles. Last season, the Canes swept Boston College 7-0 in Dedham, Mass. The Eagles enter this weekend with a 6-9 record.
The Canes will be looking to bounce back after falling in a close match last weekend against ACC rival No. 64 Clemson.
In singles play, No. 77 Piotr Lomacki has led the way for the Canes with nine singles victories. Following closely behind are seniors Wilfredo Gonzalez with seven wins and Henrique Tsukamoto with six singles victories. Freshman Christian Langmo has five singles victories and classmate Niclas Genovese and lone sophomore Bernard Tefel each have four singles wins. Freshman Andrew Harrington has three singles victories. Fellow freshman Kevin Bondar has two singles victories. Freshman Nile Clark also has one singles victory.
In doubles play, senior Tsukamoto and freshman Lomacki lead the way with an 8-4 record. Gonzalez and Bondar also have an impressive 7-4 record this spring. Freshman Clark has five doubles victories, three coming with fellow freshman Alexander Fahnehjelm, one with Harrington and the other with Langmo.
The Canes will be on the road next two weekends before returning to the Schiff to face Virginia Tech (April 17) and Virginia (April 19) to close out the regular season.
