Miami Hosts GW & Georgia Tech This Weekend
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will continue their 2015 spring season this weekend on Friday, March 6 when they host George Washington at 2 p.m. and will kick-off ACC play against Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 8 at 12 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
This weekend’s match-up will be the second meeting between Miami and George Washington. The Canes have a 1-0 all-time record against the Colonials. The Wildcats enter this weekend with a 4-6 record.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, this will be the 44th meeting between Miami and Georgia Tech. The Canes hold a dominant 36-8 all-time record against the Yellow Jackets. The last meeting came last season, when the Canes went to Atlanta and comfortably defeated the Yellow Jackets, 5-2. The Yellow Jackets come to Coral Gables with a 7-3 record.
The Hurricanes will be excited to hit the courts after their doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman was rained out last weekend. In the first match, the Canes won the doubles point over the Wildcats then play was suspended due to rain.
In singles play, No. 75 Piotr Lomacki and seniors Henrique Tsukamoto and Wilfredo Gonzalez lead the way with four singles victories. Freshman Christian Langmo is following closely behind with three victories and fellow freshmen Andrew Harrington and Niclas Genovese each have two singles victories. Lone sophomore Bernard Tefel has one singles victory.
In doubles play, Gonzalez and freshman Kevin Bondar leads the way with an unblemished 5-0 record. Tsukamoto and Lomacki have also found success playing together with an overall record of 6-2. Freshman Nile Clark has two doubles victories, one coming with Harrington and the other with freshman Alexander Fahnehjelm.
After the two home matches, the Canes will travel to North Carolina next week for a pair of ACC match-ups. Miami will face No. 19 North Carolina on Friday, March 13 at 3 p.m. and then will face No. 2 Duke on Sunday, March 15 at 12 p.m.
