Wagner Remains Top 10 in Singles and Doubles
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – As she has been the whole spring season, University of Miami junior Stephanie Wagner is top 10 in the nation in both singles and doubles in the newest ITA rankings.
A native of Amberg, Germany, Wagner is No. 10 in singles and pairs with senior Lina Lileikite for the seventh spot on the doubles list, up three spots from the last release Feb. 10.
Wagner leads a quintet of Hurricanes ranked in singles by the ITA, with all of them in the top 90 and two in the top 50. Freshman Sinead Lohan, who has been outstanding since debuting in the fall, ranks No. 45 on the list.
Junior Clementina Riobueno is No. 62, followed by Lileikite at No. 84 and freshman Wendy Zhang at No. 90. Zhang rose eight spots since the last singles rankings were released two weeks ago.
In doubles, Wagner and Lileikite are not the only ranked duo for the Hurricanes. Riobueno teams with senior Monique Albuquerque to form the No. 17 pair in the country.
As a team, Miami is ranked No. 20 by the ITA in its first computerized team rankings of the year. The Hurricanes have been in the top 20 every week since the start of the season.
The ACC has five schools in the top 25, the second most of any conference in the nation.
Miami is coming off a 1-0 week that included an impressive 6-1 victory over FGCU Friday, Feb. 20 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Hurricanes will be back in action Friday, Feb. 27 when they open ACC play by hosting No. 53 Wake Forest. Play will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
