@HurricaneTennis Maintains No. 9 ITA Ranking
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team comes in ninth in the nation in Tuesday’s release of the ITA rankings.
The Hurricanes are in the top 10 for the second straight week, after ranking ninth on last week’s list as well. They have been ranked in the top 13 of every rankings release this spring.
Miami (3-2) is one of six ACC teams in the top 25, the second most of any conference. The ACC also has three teams in the top 10, tied for the most in the nation.
The Hurricanes were off this past weekend after participating in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va. Feb. 6-8.
Both of Miami’s losses this season are to teams that have been ranked first overall in the country, including currently top-ranked North Carolina. The Hurricanes also have a 4-1 victory over Alabama, ranked seventh when it lost to Miami and now ranked eighth.
Five of Miami’s nine players are listed in the ITA singles rankings, which were updated last week. Junior Stephanie Wagner is ranked eighth in the nation. Freshman Sinead Lohan comes in at the No. 36 spot on the list.
All five ranked Hurricanes ranked in singles are also ranked in doubles, with that list also being released last week. The duo of Wagner and senior Lina Lileikite checks in at No. 10, while senior Monique Albuquerque pairs with junior Clementina Riobueno in the No. 17 spot. Miami’s other ranked doubles pair is No. 57 and features Lohan and fellow freshman Wendy Zhang.
After their break following the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the Hurricanes will return to action Friday, Feb. 20 when they host the FGCU Eagles at 4:00 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
