@HurricaneTennis Up One Spot in ITA Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s team rose one place in the ITA national team rankings released Wednesday.
The Hurricanes are now No. 12 in the country, the same spot at which they began the spring season.
Head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ team has gotten off to a blazing start to open the year over the first two weekends.
The Hurricanes went a combined 28-8 at the Miami Spring Invite Jan. 16-18, including 20-4 in singles play. The impressive record came against a trio of top 50 opponents, in Texas, Utah and Vanderbilt, with the Longhorns and Commodores in the top 25.
After the stellar showing to begin the season, Miami continued its strong play Jan. 24-25 when it hosted Florida State, North Florida and USF as a part of ITA National Indoor Kick-Off Weekend.
The Hurricanes beat the Ospreys 4-0 Saturday and then defeated then-No. 30 Florida State Sunday, 5-0. The win over the Seminoles sent Miami to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the 11th straight year.
The tournament will be Feb. 6-9 in Charlottesville, Va. and 15 of the 16 qualifiers are ranked in the top 20.
Five of the 16 teams are in the Atlantic Coast Conference, which has seven schools ranked in the top 25 this week, tied for the most of any conference.
The Hurricanes will not play again until they head to Charlottesville for National Indoors and the next home match will be Friday, Feb. 20 at 4:00 p.m. against FGCU.
