Three Wins for Canes at Florida Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team finished its second day at the Florida Invitational with two singles victories and a doubles win at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

Wins by senior Wilfredo Gonzalez and freshman Christian Langmo highlighted the day for the Canes in singles action in Gainesville. Gonzalez faced Norbert Nemcsek from North Florida and dominated his opponent in a straight-set win, 6-1, 6-0. His freshman counterpart Langmo also had a solid performance in another straight-set win against experienced junior Julian Bradley from North Florida, 6-4, 6-2.

Senior Henrique Tsukamoto played in a tough match but could not close out, falling to Jack Findel-Hawkins from North Florida, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Bernard Tefel, a local native of Miami, Fla., challenged his opponent Zach Goldberg from North Florida in a close match-up, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Andrew Harrington could not develop a groove falling to Richard Brej from Florida, 6-3, 6-1. Fellow freshman Kevin Bondar battled but went down to Oliver Landert from Florida, 6-3, 7-5. Rounding out the singles action was freshman Nile Clark,  who fell in straight sets to Josh Wardell from North Florida, 6-2, 6-3.

In the first session of doubles action, Tefel and Harrington fell to Josh Wardell and Oliver Landert from Florida, 8-4. Senior Tsukamoto and freshman Clark teamed up and battled, but could not finish against Chase Perez-Blanco and Richard Brej from Florida falling, 8-6. Senior Gonzalez and freshman Langmo had the tough task of facing No. 15 Jack Findel-Hawkins and Norbert Nemcsek from North Florida, and competed hard but fell, 8-5. Bondar again paired up with William Jou (Texas) to play in the doubles session. The team lost 8-2 to Julian Bradley and Zach Goldberg of North Florida. 

In the second session of doubles action, the duo of Gonzalez and Langmo came back strong to defeat the team of Lloyd Glasspool and Nick Naumann from Texas, 8-6. The team of Tefel and Harrington battled, but did not have enough, going down to Jordan Belga and Oliver Landert from Florida, 8-5. Rounding out the action for the Canes was the duo of Tsukamoto and Clark who could not develop a rhythm against Adrien Berkowicz and George Goldhoff from Texas and ultimately fell, 8-1.

The Canes hit the court on Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
