Lomacki to Semifinals at ITF Futures
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – While playing for his native Poland, University of Miami freshman Piotr Lomacki came back to make his way into the semifinals at the ITF USA F30 Futures at the Highland Park Tennis Center in Birmingham, Ala.
Lomacki, who is No. 778 in the ATP singles ranking, was drawn against No. 901 Naoki Nakagawa from Japan, who is also No. 10 in the ITF Juniors rankings. Lomacki was forced to pull a comeback after falling in the first set 3-6. He then found his groove in the second and third sets, outscoring Nakagawa 6-3, 6-4, to win the match.
This is the third time in 2014 while representing Poland that Lomacki has played in the semifinals of an ITF Futures tournament. This past summer, Lomacki made his way into the semifinals of both the Poland F5 Futures and the Estonia F2 Futures.
Lomacki will now face qualifier Julio Peralta, the No. 18 player in Chile, on Saturday. Singles play will begin at 10 a.m. at the Highland Park Tennis Center.
