Lomacki Rolls to Round of 16 in ITA Futures

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Representing his native country of Poland, University of Miami freshman Piotr Lomacki battled his way today to a Round of 16 berth at the ITF USA F30 Futures at the Highland Park Tennis Center in Birmingham, Ala.

Lomacki, the No. 778 in the ATP singles ranking, was drawn against No. 714 Mikhail Fufygin from Russia. Lomacki was challenged in the first set, but decisively turned away his opponent in the second set en route to a straight-set victory, 7-5, 6-2.

Lomacki will face either No. 1244 Osama Zoghlami from Canada or unranked Sora Fukuda from Japan on Thursday. Singles play will begin at 10 a.m. at the Highland Park Tennis Center.

In doubles, Lomacki was teamed up with Arthur Surreaux from France. As the No. 2 seeded team, Lomacki and Surreaux were paired up against Randy Blanco from Cuba and Jun Nan Tao from China. Both Lomacki and Surreaux fought hard, but ultimately fell in a tough match, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
