Soccer to Battle Wolfpack Thursday on ESPN3

RALEIGH, N.C. ? Miami continues its road swing Thursday night with a trip to NC State for a showdown against the Wolfpack at Dail Soccer Field.

Kickoff for the match, set to be broadcast on ESPN3, is set for 7 p.m.

The Hurricanes are looking to rebound from a disappointing loss to No. 21 Clemson Saturday on the road at Historic Riggs Field.

After sound play by Miami spanned the entire first half, a red card issued to the visitors at the end of the frame forced the Hurricanes to compete with just 10 players against a talented Tigers side for the final 45 minutes.

“We executed our game plan really well in the first half,” Monroe said after the match. “We had some dangerous chances and connected well. Going down to 10 players was difficult.”

Miami is optimistic for a decision against the Wolfpack (2-11-2, 0-7-0 ACC), who is coming off a 1-0 overtime loss on the road at Boston College.

“We’re all excited about our match against NC State,” head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “The team is prepared, and I’m excited to see our attacking personalities shine on Thursday night.”

The Wolfpack is led by freshman Kayla Saager, who leads the team in goals (four) and points (nine).

The Hurricanes earned a hard fought 2-1 decision over NC State last year at Cobb Stadium. Goals from Erin McGovern and Jasmine Paterson put Miami ahead, but a goal from NC State’s Jackie Stengel gave the Wolfpack hope in the final stages. Miami successfully held off the visitors and clinched the first conference win of Monroe’s tenure.

The Hurricanes are riding an unbeaten streak against the Wolfpack dating back to the 2006 season. Miami topped NC State 2-0 in its last trip to Raleigh back in 2012.
