@CanesMensTennis Looks to Continue Success

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team is looking to continue its successful start to the season this weekend, splitting the squad between two prestigious tournaments across the country.

Miami will be represented at the Olympia Fields Country Club Invite by senior Wilfredo Gonzalez, sophomore Bernard Tefel and freshmen Piotr Lomacki and Christian Langmo. Rookies Lomacki and Langmo will debut for the Canes this weekend as play begins in Olympia Fields, Ill., on Friday, Sept. 19 and the finals will be played on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Senior Henrique Tsukamoto will lead the freshmen trio of Nile Clark, Alexander Fahnehjelm and Andrew Harrington in the 46th annual Farnsworth Ivy Plus in Princeton, N.J. Fahnehjelm, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, will begin his collegiate career as a Hurricane this weekend. The Canes are part of a 22-team field which features Army, Binghamton, Brown, Buffalo, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Iowa, Marist, Michigan, Monmouth, NJIT, Notre Dame, Penn, Pepperdine, Princeton, St. John’s, Tulane, Virginia Tech and Yale. The event opens at the Lenz Tennis Center on Friday, Sept. 19 and the finals will be played on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Last weekend, the University of Miami men’s tennis began their 2014-2015 season successfully at the Bedford Cup – State of Florida Championships. At the Bedford Cup, Clark played in his first collegiate finals match, Harrington won his quarterfinalists bracket and Tefel won his consolation bracket.
