Leave a Lasting Legacy Through Planned Giving
Hurricane Fans: Did you know that you can make a permanent impact on Miami Athletics for generations to come? If you are looking to leave a lasting legacy for the Miami Hurricanes, planned giving can help you achieve that goal.
Planned giving is a simple way to ensure that UM Athletics can continue to carry out its mission of athletic and academic excellence well into the future. Whether you want to support our mission today or design a plan that benefits UM in the future, you can feel good knowing that you are leaving a lasting impact on Hurricane Athletics.
“Planned giving is a way to truly move the needle without an immediate cash commitment,” Assistant Athletic Director for Major Gifts Chris Cohen said. “Many supporters don’t realize that planned giving is a charitable option. Leaving a planned gift is a transformative way to impact the program by helping build the foundation for future success.”
A process of charitable, legal, financial and tax planning, planned giving enhances an individual’s philanthropy and enables you to address other financial and estate planning issues while making a gift.
Planned gifts include life income plans (retirement plan assets, annuities, and remainder trusts), as well as lead trusts, bequests, real estate, tangible personal property, closely held stock, life insurance, and gifts of a remainder interest in a home. Each gift option offers various benefits.
Through planned giving, an individual can set up a scholarship endowment which will benefit UM Athletics in perpetuity. You can also designate a facility gift that will help the University of Miami provide the best resources for its student-athletes. An individual can also designate their planned gift to a specific program to benefit the sport of their choosing.
Every supporter that makes a planned gift becomes a member of the University of Miami Heritage Society, which connects individuals with the University, and establishes a meaningful and enduring relationship with donors and their families. An individual’s planned gift will also count toward the overall University Capital Campaign, Momentum2.
The Smith family, Golden Cane society members and longtime Hurricane supporters, recently made a planned gift to endow athletic scholarships for UM student-athletes in perpetuity.
“I’ve supported the Hurricanes since 1972, and will forever be a Miami Hurricane” said Greg Smith.
Greg and his son, Kyle, make the five-hour drive from Ormond Beach, Fla., to watch every Canes home football game.
“Growing up, I remember watching the Canes every Saturday with my father,” Kyle said. “They are some of the best memories of my life. We know through our gift that we will help future student-athletes at The U and are proud to be part of the rich tradition that is the University of Miami.”
If you have already included UM Athletics in your estate plans, please contact the Hurricane Club. Once notified of your commitment, you will be inducted in the Heritage Society and your contribution will be counted toward the Momentum2 campaign.
Through their impactful planned gifts, Hurricane fans can leave a lasting legacy on the program and help build a foundation for the future.
