Aly Named Most Improved Senior of the Year

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior Omar Aly has been named the Southeast Region Most Improved Senior of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today.

“Omar had to work really hard to get to where his game is today,” said Coach Mario Rincon. “He had to get stronger physically, and improve many parts of his game. He worked his way up to the top of the singles and doubles lineup, always being a class act, on and off the court. It was rewarding as a coach to see him improve over the years, and I’m happy to see him recognized as the most improved senior of our region.”

Aly, who was named an alternate for the 2014 NCAA D-I Men’s Tennis Singles Championships, was ranked as high as No. 66 by the ITA this season. He posted an overall 14-7 singles mark and was 5-4 in ACC play. He defeated a pair of Top 25 players this season and posted winning streaks of seven and four matches. In four seasons at Miami, he notched a 33-32 singles record, earning 14 just this season. In doubles, he posted 30 victories in his four years at The U.

Aly, who hails from Edmond, Okla., received his BA degree in economics with a minor in psychology last weekend and he plans to look for wealth management jobs in the Miami area.
