Monroe Releases 2014 @CanesFutbol Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — University of Miami head women’s soccer coach Mary-Frances Monroe released the team’s 2014 schedule Wednesday.

The Hurricanes’ 18-game regular season, which includes 10 contests against Atlantic Coast Conference foes, officially opens with a road contest against Florida (Aug. 22). Prior to the team’s season opener, Miami has exhibitions scheduled on the road at USF (Aug. 11) and at North Florida (Aug. 15)

“This spring was very important for us in gearing up for our fall schedule,” Monroe said. “This is the most time we have had at Miami to develop the players with a consistent routine. It was nice to break down how we want our team to look moving forward. “

Miami’s challenging nonconference slate includes trips to Florida, UCF (Aug. 24), FGCU (Aug. 29), as well as home matchups with three other Sunshine State foes: Jacksonville (Sept. 2), Stetson (Sept. 5) and FAU (Sept. 7).

The Hurricanes’ nonconference schedule will conclude with a trip to Portland, Ore., for the Nike Portland Invitational (Sept. 12-14).

“We will face a great deal of talent right in our backyard during the first couple of weeks, which will give us an early opportunity to get out and compete,” Monroe said. “And we have a great trip out west planned to play two talented programs in Portland and Washington.”

11 of the 20 teams on Miami’s slate qualified for the 2013 NCAA postseason, including two Final Four teams in Florida State (Oct. 4) and North Carolina (Oct. 25).

“We have an opportunity to play some top-tier programs outside of the ACC,” Monroe said. “In building our schedule, we wanted to compete against programs that would prepare us for the challenges we face weekly in the conference.”

The schedule is comprised of 10 games on the road and eight games at home inside Cobb Stadium on the University of Miami campus. The 2014 ACC Women’s Soccer Championship semifinals and finals begin Nov. 7.
