WEEKEND NEWS AND NOTES
ROAD TRIPPING…
• After capturing a 10-9 victory over FAU to clinch the season series, Miami will continue a four-game road swing with a trip to South Carolina for a weekend ACC series against Clemson beginning Friday, April 25.
• Miami won the series against Clemson at home in 2013 by capturing two of three games at Mark Light Field. The Hurricanes dropped game one by a final score of 1-0, but won the next two games (2-1, 7-0).
• The Hurricanes were matched up with the Tigers in Pool play at the 2013 ACC Championship in Durham, N.C., and came away with a 7-0 victory. Miami is 4-1 in its last five games against Clemson, but dropped the series in its last trip to Doug Kingsmore Stadium in 2012.
STREAKING SUCCESS…
• Miami ran its recent winning streak to 14 consecutive games, but lost to Notre Dame in game two of it ACC series (April 20). The streak, which help propel Miami to a tie for first place in the ACC, was the program’s longest since a similar 14-game stretch in 2008.
• By capturing its series finale 7-2 against Pittsburgh on April 13, Miami completed its third consecutive three-game ACC sweep – the first time the Hurricanes accomplished the feat since joining the conference in 2004.
• Miami set a new program record with 10 consecutive ACC wins during the 14-game winning streak, besting the previous long (nine consecutive) by one win. The Hurricanes have already topped their 2013 conference win total (14) with three ACC weekends remaining, and have won 16 of their last 17 games overall.
HEATING UP…
• Since the start of Miami’s 16-1 stretch on March 24, freshman slugger Zack Collins has turned it up a notch. Collins is hitting at a .385 clip over the past 17 games since, and leads all hitters with 23 RBI over that span. Of the 102 runs Miami has scored in the 16-1 stretch, Collins has driven in or scored 33 of them (32.3%).
• Senior Dale Carey has moved his season average just under .300 (.299) by hitting .328 (22-for-67) over the team’s past 17 games. He is reaching base at a .444 clip and slugging .448 since March 24.
• The Hurricanes have outscored opponents 2-to-1 (102-to-51) over their recent run, and have fielded at an impressive .982 clip – 20 points higher than the first 25 games of the season (.962) before the streak began. Miami’s team ERA over the recent run (2.45) is over 1.5 runs better than beforehand (3.97).
