No. 39 Men's Tennis Travels to Virginia

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 39 University of Miami men’s tennis team will travel to Virginia this weekend to play a pair of ACC matches against No. 4 Virginia and No. 54 Virginia Tech.

On Friday the Canes take on No. 4 Virginia at 3 p.m. in Charlottesville, then on Sunday, Miami will be in Blacksburg to face off against No. 54 Virginia Tech at 12 p.m.

This week Miami was tabbed as the No. 39 team in the country, becoming a top 40 team for the first time since Feb. 21, 2012, when the Canes were No. 36. This season the Canes have defeated three ranked ACC rivals in then-ranked No. 52 Georgia Tech, No. 18 Wake Forest, and most recently No. 31 NC State.

The Canes are currently riding a seven-match winning streak and have won 10 of their last 11 outings after defeating the University of Nebraska Omaha, 7-0, on Tuesday.

Senior Omar Aly secured a spot in the polls at No. 92, after defeating then-No. 20 Romain Bogaerts of Wake Forest. Aly now holds a 12-3 singles record.

The No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers have a 2014 spring season record of 12-2, and are undefeated (4-0) in ACC matches. No. 4 Virginia is coming off of three wins on the road against Loyola Marymount, No. 6 North Carolina and No. 13 Duke.

No. 54 Virginia Tech has an 8-7 2014 spring season record, and the Hokies are 1-3 in ACC matches. No. 54 Virginia Tech will host No. 24 FSU on Friday before taking on Miami on Sunday. The Hokies are coming off three losses on the road to No. 19 Boise State, No. 13 Duke, and No. 6 North Carolina.
