W. Tennis Jumps to No. 13 in ITA Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes women’s tennis team jumped seven spots to No. 13 in the latest ITA women’s tennis rankings on Tuesday.
Miami (8-2, 4-0 ACC) has won four-straight ACC matches to start conference play, and most recently, picked up a win against No. 19 Georgia Tech on Sunday.
This coming weekend the Hurricanes hit the road for the first time in ACC play when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to play ACC newcomer Pittsburgh. Then, on Sunday, the team heads to Raleigh, N.C., for a dual match with the NC State Wolfpack.
The individual rankings remain the same for another week before they are updated on Mar. 11. The Hurricanes have two players in the singles rankings, Kelsey Laurente at No. 40 and Stephanie Wagner at No. 71.
Two Hurricanes doubles teams remain in the rankings with Clementina Riobueno and Monique Albuquerque at No. 24 and Kelsey Laurente and Melissa Bolivar at No. 48.
This past weekend in the match against Georgia Tech, Laurente and Bolivar picked up an impressive win, taking down the No. 3 team in the nation—Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey of Georgia Tech.
Monique Albuquerque is the wins leader so far this season with 10 singles victories including a team-long five match win streak.
Wagner and Laurente each have nine wins, combining for a 14-3 record in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slots.
Miami’s doubles teams continue to produce, especially in ACC play where doubles are a combined 10-1. Overall for the spring, the collective doubles record is 27-7.
The Hurricanes get back to action this weekend when they take on the Pittsburgh Panthers on the road on Friday and play at NC State on Sunday.
