@CanesFutbol Excelling in the Classroom
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Three Miami Hurricanes were among those recognized with All-ACC Academic recognition Tuesday, while the team was honored with the 2012-13 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for their achievements off the pitch and in the classroom.
Senior Tara Schwitter (economics), junior Ashley Flinn (sport administration) and sophomore Paige Lombard (anthropology) were all first-time honorees by the conference.
“I’m really proud of their accomplishments, especially during a hectic fall season,” head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “Having such a strong GPA is impressive, especially given the time commitment for soccer-related activities in the fall. For them to find so much success in the classroom is something I’m very proud of.”
The Hurricanes received the NSCAA team award, given to teams whose players accumulate a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher, for the 11th straight season. Miami has won the award every season since 2005, and also earned NSCAA honors in 2003.
“I’m really excited,” Monroe said. “We talk about on-the-field and off-the-field accomplishments, and this goes to show you how hard they work. To accomplish such a high team GPA at one of the most competitive universities nationwide is one of our goals every year.”
Miami opened its spring exhibition schedule with a 4-0 win against FAU Saturday. The Hurricanes next travel to UCF for another exhibition on March 22.
