W. Tennis Hosts FGCU on Thursday
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The ninth-ranked Miami Hurricanes women’s tennis team continues their spring season on Thursday, Jan. 30 when they welcome Florida Gulf Coast to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for a dual match at 5 p.m.
Miami (2-0) is coming off two wins against Ohio State and LSU that solidified their spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., on Feb. 7-10.
The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles enter Coral Gables with a 2-1 record with wins against Iowa State and Louisiana Tech. Prior to losing their first dual match of the season this past weekend to UCF, the Eagles hosted the FGCU Spring Invitational.
With two dual matches and the Miami Spring Invite under their belt, Monique Albuquerque, Melissa Bolivar and No. 64 Kelsey Laurente each have tallied three singles victories. Most notably, Laurente knocked off 22nd-ranked Breaunna Addison of the University of Texas. Lina Lileikite, Clementina Riobueno and 32nd-ranked Stephanie Wagner have each notched two wins thus far in the young spring season.
Miami has been dominant in doubles in the 2014 season, with the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles boasting undefeated records. At the No. 1 slot, 29th-ranked Albuquerque and Riobueno are 3-0 and at the No. 2 spot, Bolivar and Laurente are a stellar 4-0.
