MTennis Spring Schedule Released
CORAL GABLES, Fla. –The University of Miami men’s head tennis coach Mario Rincon has officially released the spring 2014 tennis schedule for the Hurricanes.
Miami will play 13 teams that finished the 2013 season in the top 75 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. Of those 13 teams, four finished last season in the Top 25, including No. 1 Virginia, No. 7 Duke, No. 19 Wake Forest, and No. 21 Clemson.
The ACC proved strong in 2013, and all five ACC teams Miami hosts in Coral Gables this season finished 2013 ranked in the top 75, including No. 19 Wake Forest (March 21), No. 35 North Carolina State (March 23), No. 7 Duke (April 4), No. 52 North Carolina (April 6), and No. 37 Florida State (April 19).
The Hurricanes will open the season against Florida Atlantic University at home on Jan. 12, and won’t travel outside of the state of Florida until their 10th match of the season, when they kick off ACC play and visit Clemson on March 7.
The Canes will then visit Georgia Tech (March 9) before taking a three-match break from ACC competition, hosting Troy, Boston and Wisconsin. The team resumes conference play with nine-straight ACC matches including matchups against Wake Forest (March 21), NC State (March 23), Duke (April 4), North Carolina (April 6), Notre Dame (April 11), Boston College (April 13), and Florida State (April 19).
Outside of ACC play, the Canes will also face ranked teams when they play No. 50 Texas Tech (Feb 7), No. 74 South Florida (Feb 9), No. 71 North Florida (Feb 22), and No. 65 Wisconsin (March 17).
The ACC Championships begin April 24 and continue until April 27. The NCAA Regional Tournament follows on May 9 and May 10, and the NCAA Championships begin on May 15 and last through May 18. The NCAA Individual Championships wrap up the season, lasting from May 21 through May 26.
