Vernon Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week
NEW YORK — After posting career-high totals of 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks in his team’s win over divisional rival New York, Miami Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon was recognized Wednesday as AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Vernon’s 2.5 sacks were an AFC-best for Week 13 and tied for the second-most league-wide behind the New York Giants’ Justin Tuck (four). Through 12 games, Vernon has posted career-high totals of 10 sacks and 46 total tackles, ranking first and fifth on the team, respectively, in the two categories.
His 10 sacks are tied for sixth-most among all defensive players in the NFL.
The award marks the second career recognition for Vernon and fourth for #ProCanes this season, joining Devin Hester (Week Two), Jimmy Graham (Week Three) and Travis Benjamin (Week Five).
