W. Tennis Receives ACC Championship Rings
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team receieved their ACC Championsip rings on Saturday at the homecoming football game versus Virginia Tech.
The Hurricanes were honored in between the first and second quarters with a ring ceremony on the field.
The University of Miami women’s tennis team had a memorable season in the spring of 2013—winning the ACC Championship and advancing to the program’s fifth straight Elite 8.
Entering the ACC Championships as the No. 4 seed, the Hurricanes first defeated Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals before upsetting top-seeded and 2nd-ranked North Carolina in the semifinals.
Facing in-state rival and 30th-ranked Florida State in the finals, the Hurricanes came away with a 4-1 victory to clinch the program’s first ACC Championship.
Ranked 6th in the nation heading into NCAA Regional play, the Canes welcomed Purdue, UNF and South Carolina to Coral Gables. The Canes then secured their eighth consecutive trip to the Sweet 16 with wins over UNF and Purdue.
In the Sweet 16 Miami prevailed over Northwestern in a 4-3 win to advance to the team’s FIFTH consecutive Elite Eight Appearance.
