Albuquerque Named S-A of the Week
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Hurricanes’ junior women’s tennis player Monique Albuquerque was named the student-athlete of the week and was honored on the field during the Miami vs. Wake Forest football game on Oct. 26.
Entering her second season in orange & green, Albuquerque will once again play a key role for the reigning ACC champion women’s tennis team in 2013-14. The Porto Alegre, Brazil native shined on the court and in the classroom in her first season with the Hurricanes, helping lead Miami to its first ACC title while earning a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
An economics major carrying a 3.907 GPA, Albuquerque has made the Athletic Director Honor Roll three times (GPA of 3.2 or higher), the Dean’s List three times (3.5 GPA), Provost’s Honor Roll twice (3.75) and qualified for the President’s Honor Roll twice for a perfect 4.0 GPA. Albuquerque, who is also a University of Miami Book Buster member, recorded an 11-9 singles mark and teamed with Clementina Riobueno en route to a 16-4 doubles record this past spring.
