TULSA, Okla. – University of Miami Hurricanes Wilfredo Gonzalez and Diego Soto, competing at the Saint Francis ITA Men’s All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., battled but faltered in their first round qualifying matches.
Soto, competing for the first time in a singles match in 2013, came up short against Jordan Daigle of Virginia. The 7-5, 6-1, loss moves Soto into Tuesday’s qualifying consolation bracket. He will face Blake Davis of Florida State at 5 p.m.
Gonzalez, who also saw his first singles action of the year, met the same fate as Soto, losing his first round match. Texas A&M’s Shane Visant beat Gonzalez in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Gonzalez will square off against Eric Johnson of USC at 4:30 p.m.
The 2013 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships attracts some of the top players from around the country. Miami has four participants competing for the first men’s national title of the fall season.
