@HurricanesGolf Preps for Onion Creek

AUSTIN, Texas – The Miami Hurricanes women’s golf team is making the first of two consecutive trips to Austin, beginning with the Challenge at Onion Creek.

Hosted by Texas State, the Challenge at Onion Creek will be played Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the par-70, 5,821-yard Onion Creek Original Course in Austin. Monday’s play will feature 36 holes with a 9:30 a.m. ET shotgun start, followed by the final 18 holes Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Miami, who is ranked No. 57 by Golfstat, is one of 10 Division I teams competing at Onion Creek, including No. 27 Kansas, No. 54 Kansas State and host No. 56 Texas State. St. Edwards is the 11th team in the field and is the No. 1 ranked NCAA Division II team.

For the second straight tournament, the Hurricanes’ lineup will feature juniors Leticia Ras-Anderica and Rika Park, sophomore Kailey Walsh and freshmen Delfina Acosta and Daniele Darquea. In Miami’s season-opening seventh-place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational, Ras-Anderica paced the Canes with a 17th-place showing at 12-over 228. Darquea tied for 30th overall at 15-over 231, while Park, Acosta and Walsh all tied for 34th at 16-over 232.

“We are excited to get back out on the course in Austin,” fourth-year head coach Patti Rizzo said. “The course should be more like Florida courses which is a definite advantage for us. I think our team is going to do well this week.”

Following the Challenge at Onion Creek, the Hurricanes will return to the Lone Star State for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational (Oct. 13-14) to conclude their fall slate.
