Catching Up With Stephanie Wagner
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Over the course of the next few weeks leading into the fall season, HurricaneSports.com will feature members of the women’s tennis team for a special summer series.
This week’s Hurricane being highlighted is sophomore Stephanie Wagner. Named All-ACC and the ITA Southeast Region Rookie of the Year in her freshman season, Wagner continued to impress on the court this summer. The native of Amberg, Germany recently won the singles tournament at an ITA Summer Circuit event at the University of Florida.
Hello!
My favorite part about summer is going home to Germany. I don’t see my family for 4-5 months and I am really excited, after not seeing them for a long time, to go back and enjoy a couple of nice weeks with them. It is also exciting to see my friends back there and to exchange what happened over those couple of months when we didn’t see each other.
When classes concluded in the spring, I went back home to Germany and won a tournament that I played in. After that I had five club matches for my club in Amberg. The rest of the time back home I spent with my family and friends.
Typically, back home my schedule is not as busy as when I am in Miami. I would usually wake up around 9:00 a.m. every day and start the day with a little run, lasting around 35 minutes. After that, I would spend time with my parents and my brother. In the afternoon, I would sometime play tennis with my brother or meet my friends.
At the start of the second summer session, I went back to Miami and enrolled in two classes. Furthermore, I practiced with the girls from my team, who took summer classes as well, to prepare myself for the ITA Summer Circuit event at the University of Florida.
When I got back into the swing of things in Miami, my schedule became a lot busier. I had fitness in the morning at 7:30 a.m. for about an hour. Following my fitness, I had class from 10:00-11:40 a.m. After finishing class I would ride my bike to my apartment and cook something for lunch. At 2:30 p.m. I would go back to the courts and would do my rehab program and get ready for practice, which typically lasts from 3:00-5:00 p.m. After that, I had another class from 6:00-7:40 p.m. By the end of the day, I would be really tired and ready to relax or do something with my friends.
One of the most fun things we did this summer was go to the Justin Timberlake and Jay Z concert at Sun Life Stadium. It was so much fun and the atmosphere was tremendous.
Outside of playing tennis and training, I like to relax with family and friends and to do stuff that I don’t get time to do during the school year. During the semester I am too stressed out with school and practices
that I don’t really have time to go shopping, relax at the beach, or read books that are not mandatory for classes. This summer, my best friend from Germany came to visit me for one week. I showed her Miami and we had a lot of fun together. We relaxed at South Beach and Key Biscayne and had some nice, relaxing dinners.
Hope you enjoyed hearing about my summer!
